Will the New Route for Moreton Motorway Claim Your Property?
The Department of Transport and Main Roads (TMR) has released a revised route for Stage 4 of the Bruce Highway Western Alternative, which is also referred to as the Moreton Motorway.
This updated plan has implications for residents in and around Elimbah. It marks a turning point in a process that has spanned over a year of public feedback and community advocacy.

Latest Moreton Motorway news
Stage 4 of the Bruce Highway Western Alternative project is a 12.6-kilometre northern stretch connecting the D’Aguilar Highway at Moodlu to Steve Irwin Way at Beerburrum. The newly announced alignment veers west of Elimbah, steering clear of the town centre and running through state forest and rural land. It’s a direct response to earlier community concerns about the property and environmental impacts of the two previously proposed routes, both of which have now been scrapped.

While the reduction in the number of properties that will be directly impacted is good news, with around 30 homes now affected instead of more than 100, this update still comes with consequences—if your property is located along the new path it may be purchased from you by the Government (this is known as land resumption).
What’s changed in the new proposal
According to local MP Andrew Powell, this revised approach aims to minimise disruption to both residents and the environment. The route uses as much state and council land as possible, and avoids sensitive areas such as Mount Elimbah and Mount Miketeebumulgrai, and there has been significant consideration of waterways, vegetation and cultural heritage.
Several overpasses and bridges have also been included in the new design. These are proposed for key roads, including Whittington, Child, and Old Gympie Roads, with rail and highway crossings planned to improve long-term connectivity.
The consultation phase for this phase of the new motorway is now live and will run until 5 pm on Wednesday, 30 April 2025. This is your chance as a community member to review the revised route, raise questions and lodge feedback before the corridor is formally protected later this year.
You have the opportunity to attend the following public sessions:
- 29 March at Elimbah Soldiers Memorial Hall (10 am – 1 pm);
- 1 April at Wamuran Sport Complex Hall (2:45 pm – 6:30 pm);
- 4 April at Beerburrum Community Hall (10 am – 1 pm).
