Bruce Highway Western Alternative: Updates on Stage 4
The Bruce Highway Western Alternative (BHWA), also known as the Moreton Motorway, is a new infrastructure initiative designed to alleviate traffic congestion between North Brisbane and the Sunshine Coast.
Stage 4 of the project focuses on the northernmost section of the motorway and will connect Beerburrum to Moodlu.
Here’s what you need to know about the current progress of this project, the potential impact to privately owned property, and how to get involved if your home is affected.
What is Stage 4 of the Bruce Highway Western Alternative?
Stage 4 of the BHWA will connect Beerburrum to Moodlu. It aims to provide an efficient alternative to the Bruce Highway, to make life easier for South East Queensland’s growing population.
In 2024, preliminary plans revealed routes that could potentially affect more than 140 homes, prompting concern within the community. After receiving public feedback, the Queensland Department of Transport and Main Roads (TMR) has announced that this route has been ruled out and that they are investigating new routes.
When will the Stage 4 route be announced?
The revised route for Stage 4 should be ready for review in early 2025. Once the updated route is revealed, another round of community consultations will follow. These consultations will allow residents and stakeholders to provide input and address any concerns before the final plan is confirmed.
Will your home be acquired as part of Stage 4?
Major infrastructure projects such as new roads, hospitals or public facilities often result in the Government acquiring privately owned land in what’s referred to as land resumption. If your property is identified as part of the required land for Stage 4 of the BHWA, you will face the loss of your home but be compensated so you can relocate to somewhere new.
What happens if your property is impacted by Stage 4 of the Bruce Highway Western Alternative?
Notification: TMR will notify affected homeowners in writing. This letter will outline the proposed plans and invite you to attend a community information session.
Resumption Meeting: These meetings provide an opportunity for affected property owners to learn about the resumption process, understand their rights and ask questions.
Negotiation: Homeowners may have the chance to negotiate compensation to ensure a fair and reasonable outcome.
If you’re concerned about land acquisition, expert advice can make a significant difference in securing your property’s value.
